What is a Continuing Analysis and Surveillance System ( CASS ) and why are 10 or more passenger air carriers required to have it? In general terms, (CASS) is a system used to monitor and improve the effectiveness of their aircraft maintenance and inspection programs. CASS is a closed-loop cycle that involves: • Surveillance: Someone is always collecting information • Analysis: Someone is always analyzing the information that is being collected • Corrective action: Provisions are included to correct any deficiencies in the maintenance program • Monitoring: The system is continually monitored • Feedback: The system provides feedback for operators A fully functioning CASS system in addition to a fully functioning SMS system will only improve safety, efficiency and reliability of your maintenance department. This is a system that we have not only managed but made continuous improvements too at our previous air carrier. While only required for a 10 or more air carrier, the implementation of this system into your flight department for your 9 or less fleet will add immediate value if implemented correctly and is functioning.
